Case Study
cocone reduces time spent analyzing creatives by 50% and beats CPI goals by 20% with Luna

Founded in 2008, cocone is a leading app developer out of Japan. They acquired the social game Livly Island in October 2020 and made it available on smartphones in 2021.

Leveraging Luna technology and guidance from Luna’s media team, cocone was able to decrease the time it took to aggregate data, improve collaboration between the user acquisition and design teams, and beat their CPI goal by 20%.

Yuri Nakano, Creative Designer at cocone, shares the story of why and how her team started using the Luna platform for their game Livly Island.

Dramatically reducing time spent aggregating data with Luna Control

Our in-house UA design team is made up of a handful of people, with only a few designers assigned to each of our apps - who are responsible for everything from web advertising to creative data analysis. With very little experience working with numbers, our design team spends a ton of valuable time manually aggregating creative data. In the end, analysis took so much time, we couldn’t go in as deep as we wanted, and we were stuck designing new creatives without strong insight into what was and wasn’t working well.

We started working with Luna Control 6 months ago. The team at Luna trained us for a month on how to use the Luna Control platform, and made sure we could integrate our advertising channels to ensure a smooth data flow. This made integrating the platform stress-free and ensured we wouldn’t face any roadblocks in the future. We then customized our dashboard with the metrics relevant for our performance reports.

From the start, the platform was easy to operate and gave us more data-driven analysis than we ever had before. We could pull data from multiple channels, analyze creative performance based on specific features, and come away with actionable takeaways for our team - all on the same screen.

"The Luna Control platform dramatically reduced our time spent aggregating data, allowing us to spend more time on creative development and improving our existing creatives."

Improving synergies between our UA and design teams

In addition to saving time and improving efficiency, Luna also helped us build a stronger connection between our design team and the user acquisition team.

With recommendations from the team at Luna, we used the labels function to analyze the performance of specific features or characteristics of the creatives our design team would build. For example, we created a label for a main character that appears in multiple of our ads. Knowing that this character drove more user engagement, we set up proper A/B tests with this character to further our research. This way, we had concrete research to take back to the UA team on what works and what doesn’t.

What’s more, Luna’s rank function, which gives us quick insight on how well our creatives are performing takes away any guess work when deciding which of our creatives are worth keeping around. When the design team and UA team need to come to a consensus on the effectiveness of a creative, the hard data  settles the debate for us.

Exceeding our CPI goal by 20% localizing creatives

Recently, we wanted to expand our campaigns into new markets, however, we had concerns about reaching the appropriate audiences, organizing our budget, and localization. Luna’s professional media team understood our concerns and helped us to not only reach our CPI goal in new markets, but exceed it by 20%.

Overall, the Luna team has been extremely courteous and prompt in their feedback.

"Their help combined with the time-saving tools within the Luna platform has made internal operations more efficient all while significantly improving our campaign performance."

- Yuri Nakano, Creative Designer at cocone

We look forward to opening up new opportunities with the Luna platform.
